Career Meme Important info - please read

Since not all of my friends are also attached to belmikey, I post this, since I know it spread like wildfire, y'all. I took down the log in information and ask that you do too, if you posted it in your journal.

DON'T DO THIS MEME ANYMORE. PLEASE TELL ANYONE YOU KNOW WHO DID IT TO TAKE IT DOWN AND NOT KEEP THE LOG IN INFORMATION IN THEIR JOURNAL. MORE ABOUT THIS IN belmikey's MOST RECENT POST

Danke.

But I just have to say, it is NOT out of the ordinary for career sites to have usernames and passwords like this that are legit and on the up and up. I can't tell you how many I have from the IC and Elmira career services offices. So like, take it easy lambasting people who were "so stupid to not see it was pirating."

Poll Time-Need your input

Here is the road I am on right now. I have decided I loathe and detest a regular work situation. By that I mean getting up, coming here, doing this, going home. I don't necessarily dislike what I'm doing, but it's not my life's work. Not my passion. And quite frankly, I think that dealing with the people I do is starting to get to me. Our justice system is getting to me. This department is getting to me.

Anyway long story short, I want to start my personal training business at some point, and see if I can someday move from it being an extra-curricular to maybe going half time here, to maybe someday never having to come here again. Not right this minute of course, but I want to start taking steps toward it.

I would primarily like to work with overweight individuals and people with health challenges.

What do you think I should call the business? I am not good at coming up with such things.

EDIT!!! What should I take into consideration or ask myself when trying to come up with a name?

What kind of words, images, messages, trainer would you feel drawn to? Inspire you? What would make you want to work out with me?

This is absolutely all my brain can handle right this minute.

1. If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want -- good or bad. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people remember about you.

2. We all have things about our friends that make us slightly envious. Not in a bad way, but in a 'Wow! I wish I had that person's hair/eyes/money/relationship/toenails/what ever.' So tell me what about me makes you envy me . . . then post this in your LJ and see what makes me envious of you.

It's Monday, alright.

This is what happens to me when Eva is mad at me:

Not entirely ALL her fault - apparently, I left them where she could get them. That's the most popular theory out there right now. MY theory is that it wouldn't matter WHERE I put them, because she can access ANY POINT IN OUR HOUSE, no matter what the challenge, no matter what the height or obstacle she has to face, with a McGuyver-esque ease and cleverness that, it must be said, frightens me a skosh.

So I beat ass to Walmart this morning to get some sort of remedy and you just HAD to see me driving into town with the broken glasses teetering on my nose, stuck together with some scotch tape. The only frames they had that my current lenses would fit into immediately are these bright red cat-woman glasses that I'm working right now as I type this. I ordered a different pair that simply CANNOT get here fast enough.

Carry on.

Ithaca Peeps?

I need someone to come and give me estimates for cabinets and countertops. Well, estimates for a bazillion things but there are two companies I am trying to locate. I have seen their ads on TV but of course now that I need the info I haven't seen the ads on in days. One is in Groton, I think. The other is a company that I love strictly based on the fact that they mock the Crown Construction "we'll knock your socks off" ad by saying at the end of it, "we'll even let you keep your socks."

Any of this ringing a bell? Or anyone have recommendations for companies you have worked with successfully?

Calling All Parents!

EDIT: I did NOT mean to say I thought this was the gospel. I mean to say, there is not enough emphasis on this particular topic, and if you find one of the 10 that speaks to you that you know you'd like to focus on, then it was worth posting this.

Ok, Ok I admit it. I'm a big fan of Turbo Jam. The creator, Chalene Johnson, is actually not an idiot. She has written an article about creating homes that promote a HEALTHY BODY IMAGE IN KIDS. This is not an article about fixing bad body image, it's how to support and facilitate a healthy one from the very beginning. This is an issue that is VERY important to me and near and dear to my heart. You can find the entire article here: http://syndicated.livejournal.com/turbo_jam/1410.html

...or....I've put the 10 main bullet points under the cut:

1. Never disparage your own physique in their presence. (We all have body parts to complain about, but do it in the privacy of your own bathroom!)
2. In the presence of kids avoid negative words to describe someone, like “fat”, “huge”, “chubby”, “Lazy”.
3. Occasionally compliment your kids muscles, energy, strength, or healthy glow. Avoid comments about weight or negative reference, even of a joking nature with regard to their body.
4. Don’t allow the word “fat” to be used in your household unless you’re describing a paycheck. It’s easy. In fact, I remember my son, not sure what word to use, asking me, “What do we call someone who has a big, big, big, big body?” My reply, “Someone who needs to try Turbo Jam.”
5. Try a little spin control. Make a point to comment on how “unhealthy” or “weak” stars look when their appearance is obviously under weight, malnourished and skeletal. Conversely praise those who exercise, eat right and maintain a healthy appearance and have nice muscle tone.
6. Talk about foods that make you “energized and strong” and never declare you’re on a diet. Instead, announce you’ve decided to stick to a healthy diet, which means moderation, not deprivation.
7. Make healthy eating and fitness central in your life, but declare nothing “off limits”. All foods are fine, in moderation. When my kids want chocolate or ice cream or even french fries, I make a point of telling them it’s fine because they were so active that day. If they want more than their share I remind them that it may make them feel slow, sluggish and cranky.
8. When your children make a healthy food choice on their own, praise them and reinforce their choice by
9. When asked why don’t you want a particular food in the house, avoid condemnation, like “because I don’t want to get fat.” Instead try, “Because it slows me down” or “I just prefer food that helps me feel healthy”
10. Children often confuse boredom with hunger. When your child declares, “I want something to eat,” and you’re hunch is dull drums, get in the habit of offering an activity instead of a bag of junk. The trick is not to mention boredom or food. Instead, retort with an instant activity, “Hey, want take the dog on a walk with me?”

It's just too wierd how my friend's list intersects and crosses over itself sometimes. And it's usually related to modernarchetype, who should read the most recent post of rwarner. Come to think of it, so should mcbarnes1970.

Introduction

Hey Gang! Meet my friend sweetbabyjames2. He's an interesting fellow. He's got a harem of married women on his list, and is looking for an infusion of testosterone, so he's asked to be pimped out. I suspect he is sick of either A. being lectured and mothered to death and/or B. Sick of a bunch of married women telling him he's so cute and wonderful, knowing full well that those comments are dead ends. I SO enjoy being a pimp, you have no idea.

Sweet is funny and quirky and is worth a look. As he said, he doesn't post or comment often, but he's working on it, and when he does, it is so worth it. I agree!

Even though he has specifically requested friends of a male persuasion, I encourage all of the Fabulous Females on my list to check him out as well. He sometimes loses his way and has no clue how to be socially appropriate whatsoever (and I say that with LOVE) and when those times come, he asks quite sincerely for honest feedback and it seems, really listens. He needs you Women.

Naked

Taking a cue from modernarchetype, I have forgotten my cell phone at home today. Naked I feel. Prize goes to the person who leaves the funniest or most creative message! 607-592-3510.

In other news, I haven't stepped foot onto LJ in days. And, I really need to do some paring down of the old friends list. Today, I will read the most recent 2 or 3 posts of everyone's in the spirit of trying to catch up with everyone!

Random PSA

This message brought to you by your Friendly Neighborhood Probation Officer....

As the nice weather and longer days are upon us, and people begin to actually come out of their houses and do fun things and go fun places, please remember to be safe. To that end, please consider the following, in regards to the safety of your children:

Don't use any personalized items with their names on it. T-shirts, bags, hats, beach towels...anything that allows strangers to see what their names are. It's easy enough to lure a small child away, it's even easier when the person can use their name, thereby making the child think they know them and are safe to go with. Even if you've drilled "don't go with strangers" into your child's head, if they hear their name, they aren't thinking stranger.

In other news, the protesters were out in front of Planned Parenthood again this morning when I drove to work. I don't know why I find that odd, but I do.

Cross the Line

It occurred to me on the drive home last night, when I inexplicably and randomly burst into heaving sobs of despair over what, I'm not quite sure, that the line that separates me and a full blown nervous breakdown is, at any given moment, barely perceptible.

In other news, I just have to laugh every time I see my current icon. The hair and glasses are quite similar to me, but you'd really have to pack on about 200 lbs to make it any sort of life-like version of me. *she says, as she sits at her desk shoving peanut M&M's into her mouth*.

I am out of touch. There is a strange catch 22 that goes with no LJ for a few days, I am calmly liberated by the lack of.....je ne sais quoi that some times stresses me about LJ, but really, I miss people. The missing people usually wins out.

Epiphany

Dear Self,

You know that wicked bad chronic pain you've been having in your right shoulder/upper arm? You know how you couldn't figure out for the life of you what was causing it?

Well I think I figured it out. It *could* be the fact that you carry, on that shoulder, no less that 34503495340923948 pounds of crap at any given moment. We are talking briefcase, laptop, purse, gym bag, diaper bag, a toddler in the other arm and about 12 bags of groceries dangling precariously on all 10 fingers. This could be it. Ya think?

In other news, with all of that stuff, you also carry a beverage-somehow, that doesn't spill, and you STILL get the keys in the door, and you ROCK, because you are a fierce and strong wife, mother, daughter, sister, person.

Love,
Self.

Fuckity Fuck Fuck. With Suck Sprinkles

Something bad happened to us today. No one died, and as far as I know, no one is going to die, so I'm grateful for that. Still, this thing sucks and has me very upset and stressed and I know I'm being vague but I cannot post the specifics here. I tried to do a filter post but apparently I am not allowed to enable the things I need enabled on this computer to get to do a custom list. The point of this post is this:

If you have any chants left (it's been a busy few weeks for such things!) could you please send one our way?

This too shall pass, and everything will be ok. The most important thing is that

I CANNOT FREAK OUT, LOSE MY COMPOSURE OR DO OR SAY SOMETHING I WILL REGRET. I NEED TO STAY POSITIVE AND PRODUCTIVE.

That will be hard for me. The SECOND point of this post is: If you have any suggestions for me on that one, feel free to send them my way. Because really, I just want to go ballistic and rant and rave and throw myself down the ground and have a tantrum complete with pounding my fists and kicking my feet.

Please email me if you'd like, I can talk about it there, just not here.
